Récital

Anne Thériault

An unlikely Récital for theremins played by three women searching for a lost future. Choreography for transmitting bodies imbued with ambient waves.

Details

An unfamiliar, melancholic atmosphere hovers over the retro carpet in a living room. The antennas of strange instruments, theremins, stand waiting to respond to the discreet movements of female musicians about to perform for dozens of privileged spectators. Early electronic musical instruments, the theremins capture the fantasias of three women seeking a lost future.

Sensual performance or anachronistic reverie, this unlikely Récital by Anne Thériault is a choreography for transmitting bodies imbued with ambient waves. An organ and a beat box vibrate to the soft poetry of quirky electro. Flashlights create expressionist shadow play. Lit like a film noir shot, the lighting pinpoints a kitschy painting. Spectators find a malicious pleasure in entering into this enchanted domain of objects we are fond of and that prey on our minds. A homemade choreographic recital, it evokes a sort of comic strangeness and nostalgia for obsolete technologies.
