ÜBUNG
At the back of the stage is a large screen showing a silent black-and-white movie. Onstage are young actors aged 10 to 15, listening to headphones and dubbing dialogue for the movie. The camera prowls round the property displayed on screen — an opulent mansion, expensive cars, fine furniture, paintings, silver cutlery and vintage wines. The dolce vita!
The camera comes in for a close-up of a middle-aged, world-weary couple eagerly awaiting friends for the weekend. Hugs and kisses and the latest news are exchanged, recipes are swapped and saucy stories told. After a meal washed down with plenty of wine, things start to disintegrate as the evening whirls into psychodrama. The adults drop their masks, get raging mad, hit each other and cry and shout like children. Their fragility, neuroses and extravagances leap out from the screen, while childhood slips out through the keyhole.
