ÁRPÁD SCHILLING | KRÉTAKÖR SZINHÁZ

With the passion of youth, the gifted and radical Hungarian director Árpád Schilling takes furious possession of Georg Büchner’s enigmatic and unfinished masterpiece, a play whose critique of society is still strikingly relevant. Woyzeck, a man of flesh and blood, is the anti-hero of a contemporary tragedy. As they enter the space, the audience encircles a steel cage. Its floor is covered in sand, and the characters imprisoned within are reduced to a wild state.

Details

This cruel sideshow of exploitation, treason, manipulation and humiliation is electrified by the presence of live musicians. During this merciless combat the actors, with great physical prowess, embody the political and social message of Woyzeck, its dialogue punctuated by the subversive poetry of Attila József.
