LACRIMA by Caroline Guiela Nguyen

An unmissable voice in contemporary French theatre, director and playwright Caroline Guiela Nguyen won over audiences and critics alike at this year’s Festival d’Avignon with the breathtaking, hyperrealist LACRIMA. The play tells the story of a Parisian luxury fashion house that receives an extraordinary commission: to create a wedding dress for a fictional English princess while working in utter secrecy. Lives marked by silence and tears unfold in a Paris sewing shop, among lacemakers in Alençon and embroiderers in Mumbai.

Bringing together these far-flung places in one spectacular set, Nguyen jumps back and forth between times and continents, weaving tales about relationships of domination and violence. Riveting and relevant, LACRIMA will have the audience on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

Taverna Miresia – Mario Bella Anastasia by Mario Banushi

Hailed as the most exciting young director of Athens’ prolific theatre scene, Mario Banushi creates highly poetic and visual theatrical works that draw inspiration from the traditions of his native Albania. At only 26 years old, he caused a sensation at the prestigious Athens Epidaurus Festival in 2023 with Taverna Miresia, the third instalment in a trilogy about grief, love, and family. With three powerful actresses and renowned Greek singer Savina Yannatou, the young director and actor evokes the absence of his father while offering a stirring tribute to the women who have marked his life.

With meticulous lighting and a bold aesthetic sensibility that recalls the work of Romeo Castellucci, Banushi composes tableaux of intense beauty. Drawing on raw realism and atmospheric visuals alike, this wordless production is a moment of grace that brings together a son, a mother, and sisters in an astounding rite of passage.
