A living legend in the Western dance world, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker goes back in time to create a magnificent blend of dance and music. Incredibly beautiful.
At the moment when the day slips inexorably into night, 12 performers, dancers and musicians celebrate the refinement and vitality of a music created in the dark ages of the Medieval world,ars subtilior. “While waiting, I must endure grevious pain / And live, languishing: it is my fate”, laments a ballad that opens this dance of vibrant bodies intimately engaged with sound. With the body as calligraphy, they inscribe the music onto the space with a sprightly, lissom touch. With exhilarating polyrhythms, both fiery and restrained and in solo and ensemble voice, they incarnate the musical notes, making them resonate even into silence. A bridge between the Middle Ages and the 21st century, a magnificent linking of dance and music.
A living legend in the Western dance world, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker will be presenting a double bill at the FTA with En Atendant and Cesena. This incredibly beautiful work flows like a long but far from tranquil river.

Mathematics of Space and Time
A leading figure in contemporary dance renowned for her acute understanding of music, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker established an international reputation in the early 1980s with her duo Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich (presented in 2008 at Usine C), and the ensemble piece Rosas danst Rosas, which was the inspiration for the name of her company. In 1995 Rosas worked with the prestigious Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels – where she was artist in residence from 1992 to 2007 – to create the acclaimed international school P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios), training many up-and-coming artists. A regular presence (five different editions) at the FIND festival, her company will be appearing this year at the FTA with two recent works.
