FTA Publishes the Curieux manuel de dramaturgie pour le théâtre, la danse et autres matières à changement

Montreal, September 11, 2024 – Festival TransAmériques (FTA) and éditions du passage are pleased to announce the publication of the Curieux manuel de dramaturgie pour le théâtre, la danse et autres matières à changement (Curious Manual of Dramaturgy for Theatre, Dance, and Other Materials for Transformation). Edited by Jessie Mill and Émilie Martz-Kuhn and designed by Daniel Canty with Studio TagTeam, this reference book aims to enrich the practice of artists in all disciplines. More broadly, it is intended for students, researchers, and anyone else who is passionate about artistic creation.

Ranging from Kahnawà:ke to Kigali, it assembles almost 40 voices from four continents, who share an extensive array of approaches, practices, ideas, stories, and accounts of the creative process. Texts by authors from Quebec and elsewhere in Canada engage in dialogue with the contributions of overseas collaborators from Germany, Belgium, Cuba, Cameroon, United States, France, Italy, Rwanda, and Senegal.

The Curieux manuel collects helpful questions, practical exercises, traditional methods, and tacit knowledge. It is a workbook—made for underlining, annotating, exchanging, or even reading aloud around a table or in a rehearsal space. With its lavish illustrations, the Curieux manuel is a unique object among works of its kind, full of surprises and playful explorations.

The Curieux manuel is a direct result of the FTA Clinics, a free dramaturgy service created by FTA in 2016, which has since spread to Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, and Switzerland.

Part art book, part handbook, it’s an essential work for anyone who loves the performing arts!
