Montreal, February 3, 2026 – Festival TransAmériques has announced four additional shows from its 20^th edition, taking place in Montreal from May 28 to June 10, 2026. The titles revealed today offer a sneak preview of the anniversary edition’s packed lineup, with artists from North and South America in the spotlight.

The remarkable New York choreographer Trajal Harrell, a legend of the U.S. contemporary dance scene, will return to FTA with The Romeo, a monumental show that has wowed audiences at the Festival d’Avignon and other major venues around the world. The young Mexican director Anacarsis Ramos will share the stage with his mother in the moving Mi madre y el dinero. Two major Quebec artists will stage world premieres: actress and director Marie Brassard will treat audiences to The Ether, a new one-woman show that explores the limits of existence, while Alexandra 'Spicey' Landé, a key figure in Hip Hop scene, will make her Festival debut with 2par2, featuring ten virtuoso performers. These four shows are in addition to Querelle de Roberval by Kev Lambert and Olivier Arteau and Vampyr by Chile’s Manuela Infante, which were announced previously in November.

Founded as the Festival de théâtre des Amériques in 1985, FTA has been presenting bold artistic visions for forty-one years, including twenty under the Festival TransAmériques name. Kicking off the festival season in Montreal each spring, its powerful, unique theatre and dance programming is a must for performing arts audiences. Each edition features original works, renowned artists from around the world, extraordinary experiences, and exciting activities in public space.

The anniversary edition’s full lineup will be revealed on March 24.

The Year of Marie Brassard

2025-2026 has been an especially fertile period for Marie Brassard, a theatre artist and storyteller with her own unique language. The past year has seen both a revival of her one-woman show Jimmy, créature de rêve and the release of her first film, The Train. The Ether, her eighth work to appear at FTA, takes the bold theatrical experimentation she has pursued for over twenty years to another level. Inspired by an extraordinary hallucination she experienced and various fascinating people she has known, Brassard celebrates non-conformity in a show filled with humour and friendship, accompanied by music from her long-time collaborator Alexander MacSween.

A Dance from the Dawn of Time

The U.S. choreographer and Zürich Dance Ensemble director Trajal Harrell makes his long-awaited return to FTA with The Romeo, a magnificent work first performed in 2023 in the Cour d’Honneur at the Palais des papes d’Avignon, a flamboyant procession featuring a dozen performers in a dance that blurs boundaries, mixes origins, and conflates eras. A feast for the senses combining clubbing, Butoh, voguing, and postmodern dance, a veritable extravaganza of gestures, music, and almost 300 costumes: spectacular, queer, and sophisticated, The Romeo is a celebration like no other.

The Colour of Money

A true gem of Mexican theatre from the city of Campeche, Mi madre y el dinero (“My Mother and Money”) features director Anacarsis Ramos alongside his 65-year-old mother Josefina. Through performing various activities associated with the home and work, this loving, larger-than-life duo recount her extraordinary life journey, including the over forty different jobs she did in order to survive. Playing with the conventions of documentary theatre, the show explores the realities of both the world of work and the world of the theatre in a heady blend of social critique, tender lyricism, and political observation.

Mi madre y el dinero will be the centrepiece of The FTA Experience 2026, the Festival’s fundraising event taking place on June 9. Tickets for this event are on sale now.

Through a series of virtuoso duo performances, 2par2 examines the infinite variety of human relations in all their fascinating complexity.
