CHRISTIAN RIZZO

To the sound of energizing tribal rock music, Christian Rizzo extols the masculine in a ritual that combines contemporary dance with folk dance. A raw explosion of pleasure that is absolutely irresistible.

FROM MAN TO MAN
Some sensations have such a powerful impact that, in terms of memory, they shape the present. Deeply moved by a performance of traditional folk dancing in Istanbul, the French choreographer Christian Rizzo here inflects his precise, angular dance style with the universal gestures of dances that for centuries have brought communities together. Eight dancers from the Mediterranean and two drummers set in motion the rhythms of a ritual underscored by tribal rock music that grabs a visceral hold and transports to ecstasy. Feet pounding the floor, arms lifted to the heavens, pelvis undulating and bodies whirling, they paint an exhilarating portrait of vibrant masculinity marked by virility, fragility and solidarity.

The first work by the renowned Christian Rizzo to be presented in Montreal, d’après une histoire vraie convinces the viewer of the urgent need to seek out the Other in a world where individualism often leads to immobility. A raw explosion of energy and absolutely irresistible pleasure.

CHRISTIAN RIZZO (Lille)

My Home is Art
A multidisciplinary artist born in Cannes in 1965, Christian Rizzo was a singer in a rock band and designed his own line of clothing before studying visual arts and working with choreographers like Mathilde Monnier, Mark Tompkins, Vera Mantero and Rachid Ouramdane as a dancer, costume designer and sound designer. In addition to the performances and choreography he presented through L’association fragile, which he founded in 1996, he has also worked in fashion, the visual arts and opera, ever eager for new encounters and new territories to explore. His background (Italian-Spanish family from Morocco) encouraged openness to the world and led him to seek in dance a space to question the origins of things, and to promote the uniqueness of an identity based on commingling and fused destinies.
