UNE JOURNÉE POUR HAÏTI

MARIE VIEUX-CHAUVET

Five months to the day after the terrible earthquake devastated the country comes the presentation of Amour, colère et folie, the best-known novel by the Haitian writer Marie Vieux- Chauvet, adapted here for the stage by the playwright José Pliya.

Details

This powerful baroque trilogy published in 1968 aroused the fury of François Duvalier, the tyrant then governing Haiti. Three monologues feature three strong, remarkable women who are firmly resolved to rebel despite the torments and contradictions of the past, despite the injustice and violence of the present. In her book, Marie Vieux-Chauvet was able to grasp and convey the soul of her people. Three exceptional actresses – Magali Comeau-Denis, come especially from Port-au-Prince, Christiane Pasquier and Pol Pelletier – tell this stirring tale with warmth and passion. This friendly, festive day of solidarity is designed to keep the people of Haiti ever present in our hearts and minds, using art and imagination to provide courage and comfort.
