Du serment de l’écrivain du roi et de diderot
In 1773 the philosopher and writer Denis Diderot wrote that “ Extreme sensibility (emotional involvement) makes for mediocre actors. Mediocre sensibility makes for bad actors. An utter lack of sensibility prepares actors for the sublime ”. Some two hundred years later, Van den Eede, De Schrijver and De Koning, decked out in powdered wigs, have fun putting his theories about theatrical illusion to the test of performance.
Amidst a fantastically cluttered junk shop of a set, they charge forth with a playful demonstration of theatrical know-how and a brilliant reflection on theatre and its alluring mystery. All three actors come from influential Flemish and Dutch theatre collectives. They cover all aspects of performance, going out of their way to unveil the secrets of the actor and his paradox. Stand aside, Diderot!
