He has previously worked in Montreal as an artist-instructor at the National Theatre School of Canada, and his play Mourir tendre was performed at the Théâtre Prospero in 2021. He is also a prolific novelist, and his work includes the Creole translation of the Marcel Proust classic À la recherche du temps perdu. As well as creating literature, experimental film, and theatre, he is actively involved in performing arts development in Haiti.

Regular or Super: Views on Mies van der Rohe (2004) received acclaim at numerous festivals, including the Best Canadian Film Prize at the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) and Best Cinematography Award at the Rome Art Doc Festival, while Karsh Is History (2009) aired on CBC, TVO, and PBS and also received FIFA’s Best Canadian Film Prize. His feature-length documentaries Ayiti Toma (2014) and City Dreamers (2018) were presented at numerous national and international film festivals (RIDM, FIFA, Hamburg, Boston, Guadalajara, New York, Rotterdam, Paris, Munich, Cairo, Vancouver). His most recent documentaries, Sur les pas de Rhodnie (2021) and MTL_vues du cœur (2022), were broadcast on Radio-Canada. Joseph is also head of the production company Qu4tre par Quatre Films, which produces both short and feature-length documentaries and scripted films.
