Details

Welcome to this cabinet of curiosities, a collection of odds and ends, a hodgepodge of objects tangled and eroded yet surprisingly beautiful. Enter this classroom where an imperious teacher gives dictation, leaf through this splendid book of images and aphorisms, discover this concert of eclectic music, this sardonic conference, this disconcerting ballet, this ill-assorted installation… No easy task to define this captivating universe well outside the norm.

Based on a treatise by the collective Tiqqun, the play illustrates in fragments the concept of the “girlization” of the world so characteristic of our era of overconsumption and pathological seduction. Assisted by a resourceful team of artists, Bureau de l’APA presents themselves in anarchic, inventive and poetic fashion as a critic of our society of entertainment, a rousing apostle of deconditioning. Ferociously undisciplined and rigorously unruly, these prodigious tinkerers generate emotion in uncommon ways as they deconstruct ideas, words and clichés and hijack eras, genres and styles. Blasts of protest have never blown with such grace on our certainties and convictions.

BUREAU DE L'APA

Nonconformists

Born in Quebec City, Laurence Brunelle-Côté is a writer and performer and Simon Drouin is a performer, designer and musician. He is one of the founding and active members of L’orchestre d’hommes-orchestres, a collective that performs music “that can be seen,” a clever blend of accessible and contemporary sounds. She has occasionally participated in some of their creative pieces. Together, they are the Bureau de l’APA, a company they founded in 2001 that is an unusual undisciplined workshop for the performing arts. Their stated goal is to bring together creative artists of all backgrounds to work on hybridized projects. Their astonishing show Si ma tante avait deux roues, ce serait une bicyclette premiered in Quebec City in 2007 before being performed in Lyon in 2010.
