Électre, Elektra
Alice Ronfard’s Électre, Elektra rediscovers the pleasure of creating without a safety net. The show is a rendez-vous with artistic rigour.
A rigour that dares to stage a dozen artists in a no-holes barred investigation of theatrical forms, tragedy, mythology, the place of women in history and their relationship to power. The recurring theme and binding element in this adventure is Electra, a mythical figure who is enigmatic, disturbing and fraught with unexpected meaning. She forces a confrontation of the numerous fragments of stories spun on her account, from Aeschylus to Pasolini, not to mention Marguerite Yourcenar, O’Neill, Giraudoux, and others. The highly charged atmosphere in rehearsals promises a show unlike anything ever seen. A kind of divertimentodestroy, perhaps…
