NOUS ÉTIONS ASSIS SUR LE RIVAGE DU MONDE…
A French citizen originally from Bénin, José Pliya imposes a violently sensual and powerfully poetic style in this play. Simple and lyrical and employing superb language, it addresses the abyss between men and women, between the past and the present. Can we ever go back home? Can we make a fresh start? Are homecomings a good idea?
The play poses these questions. Under a harsh and brutal sun he orchestrates a terribly human duel fraught with unbearable gentleness and alluring violence that takes place aside a stirring, ever-changing sea, with its never-ending desire to demolish the shoreline of the world. Accompanied by Caribbean actors, Denis Marleau is back with a work of beauty and vigour that reveals the body and its inner urges, the occupation of lands and memories.
