Going off to war is one thing. Coming back home is something else entirely. With the worst apparently behind him, a soldier reported missing returns home to find his wife and children amid the ruins. Nothing is as it was. Two years of hardship, humiliation and terror, under siege or as combatants, have eroded all trace of humanity, and the man’s sudden appearance is troublesome.
Considered to be the greatest Swedish playwright since Strindberg, Lars Norén has written and directed this tale of a family destroyed by a modern conflict, one where your neighbour, companion or former friend becomes your torturer or executioner. Through the filter of repressed emotions and intimate wounds, he probes the state of a world torn apart by war.
