Entrez, nous sommes ouverts

Bureau de l'APA

All those buttons, computer keys and switches we select and the mysterious connections that ensue — could all those tiny triggers be the basis for a show? A hilarious investigation.

Details

All those buttons, computer keys and switches we select and the mysterious connections that ensue – could all those tiny triggers be the basis for a show? That was the outlandish challenge facing the fantastic Bureau de l’APA collective, which astounded FTA audiences with La Jeune-Fille et la mort in 2013. In an era of overly sophisticated multimedia presentations, make way for the candid pleasures of bric-à-brac and deconstruction.

A gesture as banal as pressing a button is the remarkable subject of an eclectic cabaret that combines music, poetry, science, technology and magic. From an elevator button to a trigger, a doorbell to an electric switch, these detonators shape the world we live in. But what strange pathways make all those connections possible? The Bureau de l’APA has conducted its own scholarly, hilarious investigation by bringing together programmers, artists and a DJ in a theatrical happening to which they alone hold the key. The humble power switch as a motor of engagement, a vector of change. Behold the button in its myriad forms.
