Montreal, 26 March 2020 — In light of the current exceptional circumstances, the Festival TransAmériques has reluctantly decided to cancel the international aspect of its 14th edition, scheduled for May 20 to June 3, 2020. Twelve shows from Belgium, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Spain and the U.S. are therefore cancelled.

The federal government has imposed travel and border restrictions, expecting to limit foreign access to Canadian territory until June 30, 2020. The Festival is also coping with multiple organizational issues due to the current uncertainty. Given the context, it is unfortunately impossible for the FTA to welcome international artists to Montreal.

The following 12 dance and theatre works from abroad will not be presented this spring on Montreal stages: #PUNK 100% POP *N!GGA by nora chipaumire, Aleppo. A Portrait of Absence by Omar Abusaada, Mohammad Al Attar and Bissane Al Charif, Contingency by Hiroaki Umeda, Cria by Alice Ripoll, Elenit by Euripides Laskaridis, Estado vegetal by Manuela Infante, Holoscenes by Lars Jan, La reprise. Histoire(s) du théâtre (I) by Milo Rau, Mikado Remix by Louis Vanhaverbeke, Requiem pour L. by Fabrizio Cassol and Alain Platel, Romances inciertos, un autre Orlando by François Chaignaud and Nino Laisné and Why? by Peter Brook and Marie-Hélène Estienne.

“It is with great sadness that the FTA will not be able to share the works of artists from around the globe with Montreal audiences, as it has done since its inception in 1985. In spite of everything, we maintain our commitment to beauty, to art, to life.”
Martin Faucher and David Lavoie, co-Executive Directors

10 Domestic Shows still on Track
For the moment – and until further notice – the 10 shows from Québec and Canada are still scheduled for this year’s FTA. Given the current climate of uncertainty, all sales of tickets and ticket packages are suspended as of today. They will resume only when the Festival is able to ensure that it can present the remaining 10 shows in an environment where the health of artists and audiences will be protected.

The FTA team is closely monitoring the situation and the recommendations issued by the federal and provincial governments. It will continue to work on reconfiguring this 14th edition, given the highly unusual context we now find ourselves in.

Instructions for Ticket Holders
People who have tickets to one or more of the 12 cancelled shows who wish to be reimbursed immediately can contact the box office at their initial point of purchase. If you have any questions, please write to billetterie@fta.ca

As soon as the final shape of the 2020 edition is confirmed, the FTA will contact all its clients with information regarding ticket reimbursement, exchange or donation.
