Sur tes traces

An actor, writer, and poet, Dany Boudreault has taken part in around thirty theatre productions, including The Dragonfly of Chicoutimi by Larry Tremblay; Parce que la nuit, which he wrote in collaboration with Brigitte Haentjens; Le songe d’une nuit d’été, for which he was nominated for a Françoise-Graton award; and more recently, Homicide by Pascal Brullemans, directed by Nini Bélanger.

In 2012, along with Jérémie Boucher and Maxime Carbonneau, he founded the theatre company La Messe Basse, which favours a queer approach to creation. He wrote and performed Je suis Cobain (peu importe) (2010) and (e), un genre d’épopée (2013), plays that explore sexual ambiguity and how to tell one’s own story.He co-directed La femme la plus dangereuse du Québec (2017), inspired by the life and writings of Josée Yvon, followed by Je t’écris au milieu d’un bel orage (2022), created at Théâtre du Nouveau Monde based on extracts from the correspondence of Albert Camus and Maria Casarès.

Boudreault also appears on TV and in film, having worked with Denis Côté and François Delisle, among others. He has participated several times in the Festival des Francophonies in Limousin and the Nouvelles Zébrures festival. Under the direction of Armel Roussel, he and several other artists created Après la peur, a project that was presented in Brussels, Thionville, Vanves, and Limoges. In 2020, he created the show Ancora tu with Salvatore Calcagno at Théâtre Les Tanneurs in Brussels, which was also performed in Paris.

Born in Iran and trained in Marseille, Gurshad Shaheman has been writing and performing his own works since 2012. With his company La Ligne d’Ombre, founded in 2019, he created the trilogy Pourama Pourama (FTA, 2018), a coming-of-age story formed of three solo shows that included a meal inspired by his Iranian childhood.

His work draws on life stories, both his own and, as in Il pourra toujours dire que c’est pour l’amour du prophète, those of LGBTQ+ refugees from the Middle East. This oratorio, created at the Festival d’Avignon and based on testimonies of people met from Athens to Beirut, was delivered by young performers who became smugglers of these stories.

Shaheman is also interested in the experiences of people in psychiatric institutions and young people cut off from their families. He further developed his work on biographical subjects with Les Forteresses (2021), in which he appeared on stage with his mother and aunts. Formally, Sur tes traces testifies to Shaheman’s fascination with dissociating dialogue and action on stage. He continually explores margins, borders, and searches for identity.
